Generally speaking, the wider the steel inserts and the longer the pitch (the number of turns the lugs make in one revolution), the tougher the track is. This translates into an increased wear resistance of the track and greater durability.

Controllable factors include proper maintenance and driver behaviour, such as avoiding overloading, spinning or spot turning on slopes and ensuring correct track tension.
